How we verify. And what we refuse to guess.

AI Free Tiers tracks what you can actually use for free on AI APIs — quotas, rate limits, card requirements and trial credits — for indie developers, students and people building agents on a budget.

Rules we follow

  • Official sources only. Every value comes from the provider's own docs, pricing page or public API (for example OpenRouter's /api/v1/models). Each provider page links the exact pages used.
  • Never invent a number. If a value isn't published, or we can't read it from an official page, the field stays blank and is listed as unverified. Third-party blog posts and lists are never a source of truth.
  • Dated. Every provider has a last-verified date. Treat anything older than 30 days as stale.
  • Conflicts are flagged, not resolved by guessing. When two official pages disagree (e.g. SambaNova's docs vs. its plans page), we say so.
  • Headline limits are for one example model on the free tier. Limits are often per model and per organization, and can be lower in your account — your provider console is the final word.

How updates work

A script re-fetches every official source page, normalises the text, and diffs it against the previous snapshot. Any change becomes a changelog candidate that a human reviews before the data or changelog is updated. Nothing is published automatically.

Changelog date labels

  • Effective date — the provider announced or documented the date.
  • Page updated — the provider's page shows a “last updated” date.
  • First observed — the state we found on our first check; the actual change date is unknown.

Open data

The full dataset is available as providers.json and changelog.json, plus an RSS feed.

Independence & affiliate disclosure

We are not affiliated with any provider listed. Some pages may later contain clearly labelled affiliate links (for example GPU clouds or app builders); they will never change a provider's data or ordering.

Limits change constantly. If something is out of date, tell us with a link to the official source — corrections are the most valuable contribution.
